The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt : GEM EGG – The jewellery box

The Big Egg Hunt presented by Faberge sees 209 giant egg sculptures placed high and low across central London for over 6 weeks. These stunning pieces of unique and extraordinary art will capture the imagination of London; each one finely designed, crafted and decorated by leading artists from around the world.

Each two and a half foot fiberglass sculpture will take its place in the hunt throughout the 12 egg zones across London, and come together for The Grand Eggstavaganza on the Easter weekend. View the entire collection in all its speggtacular glory from Thursday 5 th to Monday 9 th April. All proceeds from the auction go to charities Elephant Family and Action for Children.

Sabine Roemer and Pemberton&Millner joined forces to create this unique Jewellery Box inside of the only egg that will open.

INSPIRATION: “Being a goldsmith and sculptor I wanted to create something special for my third piece for the elephant family. Naturally I chose some real gemstones, which represents the stones of Love and Protection, to decorate the egg. With the collaboration and amazing bespoke leather making skills of Pemberton&Millner we could create a “Gem Egg” Jewellery Box, which takes you to another place as soon you open the doors, where this beautiful and unfortunately endangered hornbill is waiting for you.”

the GEM EGG will be displayed at the Bentley Store in London, Berkley Square and bit here for the GEM-EGG

“On the roof tops of London Coo, what a sight!”

SABINE ROEMER, THE BEST KEPT SECRET

Jewellery artist, Sabine Roemer, is one of the best kept secrets in luxury bespoke jewellery. Each piece is meticulously hand crafted using the timeless techniques of a trained goldsmith, with intricate and delicate details that demonstrate a true perfectionist.

Sabine chose her path from an early age, training and exploring the craft from just 15 years old. Seven years later, she graduated as the youngest female Masters student from  Germany’s Pforzheim Goldsmith and Watchmaker school. Sabine’s work is inspired by nature and her surroundings. Every part of her life brings something new to each design. Whilst running through a park, her mind will find inspiration and see a bespoke piece of jewellery, or a beautiful sculpture come to life from the most unexpected, mundane objects that most of us choose to ignore.

The discerning goldsmith, Sabine’s jewellery is decadent and attention grabbing with a thick patina of 18 carat gold. Each piece in her first bespoke collection, Arabian Nights, details her love for animals and their folkloristic ornaments. The main inspiration of the collection comes from Sabine’s childhood memories of the fauna that populated the stories of Arabian Nights that her grandmother used to read her. The Shahryar Falcon Hood, a black leather hood in 18 carat white gold with pave diamonds and large centre-piece emeralds, is a stunning work of art to represent the majestical properties of the Falcon. The Scheherazade Horse ring in 18 carat gold decorated with white and black diamonds, pink sapphires, green tourmalines and rough diamonds; and the Parizade Camel Ring in 18 carat gold with white pave’ diamonds, rubies, pink tourmaline and green peridots both form miniature sculptures to be worn and adored.

Whilst the organic and holistic premise of ‘nature’ is prevalent in each piece, particularly in the Arabian Nights collection, Sabine has an acute desire to add ‘laughter’ to her designs. She cannot simply create something beautiful, it needs to have life and it needs to make the viewer appreciate the complexity of the craft but also delight in the pieces. She is determined to take the reverence away and make luxury jewellery and art feel fun, charming and engaging.

In a world of diamonds and gold, where it is easy to become swept away by bejewelled luxury, it is refreshing to come across Sabine’s low-maintenance glamour.

In 2010, Sabine led an expedition to the Himalaya’s for an artistic collaboration with local traditional craftsmen in the Ladakh area. However, this trip unfortunately coincided with the Pakistan floods. Caught in landslides, the team raced against forces of nature, sleep deprived and panic-stricken, for four days until reaching Kashmir and finding air transportation. Throughout the journey, the team were overwhelmed by the level of support and generosity bestowed upon them which only heightened their determination to help those who supported them by founding the ‘From You With Love’ charity. Sabine designed the ‘From You With Love’ bracelet from which proceeds will help orphans and vulnerable children in the Ladakh area.

The trip to Ladakh mirrored an earlier visit to the Kalahari desert in 2010. Sabine’s passion for original, organic craftsmanship led her desire to collaborate with local bushmen in support of the local trade. Together, they created a collection of jewellery using a combination of original and modern techniques. The pieces are now available at Dover Street Market and Browns.

These are just some of many philanthropic projects that Sabine is passionate to support. For the past five years, Sabine has collaborated with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, creating unique, one-off pieces for auction, one of which is the jewelled sculpture of Mandela’s hand that Morgan Freeman bid for in 2009. Freeman, went on to commission a diamond and emerald set 46664 bangle (Nelson Mandela’s prison number ) which he wore when attending the Oscars as a nominee for his role in Invictus. After the red carpet, Freeman wore the piece on The Jay Leno Show before it went to auction at the South African Football World Cup.

Not one to stand still, Sabine has recently travelled to Edinburgh to support The Elephant Family Charity by unveiling a unique hand-painted Hornbill sculpture, for auction, finished with a hand crafted sterling silver mask  set with feathers, pearls and a 383 carat ruby. The next stop was Milan to finish her piece for the 2011 Elephant Parade – the world’s largest open-air art exhibition. Each year, the Elephant Parade is hosted in different countries across Europe, this year taking place in Milan and Singapore to raise awareness for the Asian elephant. In 2010, the London exhibition featured Sabine’s ‘Emerald Queen’ in Selfridges.

Sabine’s remarkable ability to bridge creativity and philanthropy is her gift to the world. Her love for nature moves her in multiple directions, with her intricate craftsmanship and attentive eye for detailing. Her art gives so much more to the viewer. Her designs are one’s to watch and wear.

The evening began outside the main entrance of TANGS Orchard, where 10 life-sized painted baby elephants were installed the night before as part of the launch of the Elephant Parade Singapore 2011.

PRETTY&PINK

Before its official launch on 11 November 2011, Elephant Parade Singapore had a mini-stampede at the Asian Civilisations Museum where invited guests were given an exclusive and private preview of six elephant statues before they headed out to the streets of Singapore.

Guests were spotted admiring the six elephants on display that night which were Leona Lewis’ ‘Free Spirit’, Ay Tjoe Christine’s ‘Space for the Three Alphabets’, Yeesookyung’s ‘Translated Vase Baby Elephant’, Ben Cabrera’s ‘Santan’ ,Arturo Sanchez Jr.’s ‘Bula’ and

Sabine Roemer’s ‘Pretty & Pink
” My inspiration came from a long lasting partnership between the egret bird and the elephant, where each animal helps each other. As the Elephant Parade is heading to Singapore for the first time this year, my vision was to fuse the national bird of Singapore, the “sunbird crimson”, with this beautiful, kind, endangered Asian elephant. ”

Prince Harry plays against his brother at Sentebale Polo Cup

Held in torrential rain on June the 12th the Sentebale Polo Cup was a great success especially for the Duke of Cambridge’s polo team who won the round robin tournament, beating his brother who played in the Sentebale team and the Bin Drai Team. Sentebale’s co-founder Prince Seeiso braved the weather to present the prize giving, and to commiserate with Prince Harry!

After a wonderful dinner from Coworth Park, Hugh Edmeades from Christie’s took to the floor to run the auction which included some amazing lots, including a Tracey Emin Neon, a luxury safari in Botswana, a private dinner cooked by Tom Aikens and a bespoke-made handcrafted jewelry piece by Sabine Roemer. The 18k whitegold bracelet was set with Diamonds, Rubies and Sapphires, which was inspired by the “forget-me-not-flower” of the Sentebale Logo.

All the proceeds from the event will go towards improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho.

MTV Staying Alive Dinner with Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland looked phenomenal at MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation Dinner to celebrate the achievements and farewell of Chairman and Chief Executive of MTV Networks International Bill Roedy. Kelly performed and showed off some bling: A Bespoke 18-Carat White Gold & Diamond Bracelet designed by Kelly Rowland and Sabine Roemer. These girls came together to create this unique and striking 18-carat white gold and white diamond bracelet to commemorate this special occasion in aid of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation.

Taking inspiration from one of Kelly’s favourite symbols – the white rose – the handcrafted piece of jewelry is a touching symbol for the hope and passion that lies at the heart of the Foundation – that one day there will be a generation who never has to live with HIV and AIDS.  A vision which we hope will become a reality and which is encapsulated forever in this stunning item.

Anything is possible in Hollywood, even being Santa for a day!

When my dear friend Baroness Kimberly Moore (who founded www.adoptaletter.org) told me about her program to focus and support underprivileged children and families in the most impoverished areas of Los Angeles, I booked a ticket to go back to LA, the city of angles, to play Santa”s little helpers with her.

Kimberly started The Adopt-A-Letter campaign five years ago collecting Letters that are written to Santa by children in need around Los Angeles. People are invited to sponsor or “adopt” a child’s Christmas wish. The letters are posted on the website to browse through.

20,000 children in LA had their Christmas wishes granted when their letters to Santa were answered. Kimberly and her helpers deliver the gifts personally.

I was surprising my –adopt-a-letter-child  Aroun with a Michael Jordan Outfit, Wall-E and Lego toys.

What is most unique about the Adopt a Letter campaign, which is powered by HEAL LA this year, that makes it stand out from the rest – 100% of money raised goes to buy gifts.  If you would like to help Adopt-A-Letter please visit the website for contact details.

PROFESSIONAL JEWELLER HOT 100 HONOURS INDUSTRY’S GREATEST PEOPLE AND PERSONALITIES

London, UK, 13th September, 2010: The British jewellery industry gathered in London in September to celebrate the launch of the very first Professional Jeweller Hot 100. The list represents the great and good of the jewellery community, including new and established designers, retailers from across the UK, and business leaders who collectively drive over £2 billion in annual sales.
“The Professional Jeweller Hot 100 was created as to honour the people and personalities of this most glamorous of industries,” explains Rachael Taylor, editor of Professional Jeweller magazine and Professionaljeweller.com.

2010 TRENDSETTER

Very few people can say their greatest memory is to work with and meet Nelson Mandela, but for determined Sabine Roemer it is one of many huge achievements. After making history as the youngest ever female master goldsmith, following graduation from the Pforzheim Goldsmith and Watch School, the German native went on to exhibit in no less than eight countries. This year has seen her sculpt a piece for the Nelson Mandela week in New York, work with bushmen on a jewellery project in Botswana, create an elephant for the London Elephant Parade, design the jewellery worn by Oscar nominee Morgan Freeman on the red carpet at the Academy Awards, and launch in Harrods with her first one-of-a-kind collection. For someone who credits finding their vocation during a week of work experience at the age of 15, however, it’s all in a day’s work. Since my first day I knew that this is exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, she confidently states. After getting stuck in the Indian floods in Leh this year, Sabine hopes to concentrate on the charities she supports as well as setting up her own From India With Love. On top of her charity work she would like to continue to make one-of-a-kind pieces and sculptures. Sabine is pictured in her lucky Gecko ring. It is my 18 carat white gold Gecko ring, set with diamonds and an amethyst. This gecko was living with me in my room when I lived in Greece and I sculptured him into a ring when I left.
