Former President Bill Clinton was hosting an exclusive Mandela Day gala dinner and auction at the Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal, New York. He was joined by Nelson Mandela’s wife, Graça Machel and members of the family. Paul Gambaccini was chairing the star-studded gala, which included a special birthday tribute by Morgan Freeman. Notable guests came along to the dinner include Forest and Keisha Whitaker, Josh Groban, Alicia Keys and Spike Lee.
The dinner culminated a Christie’s auction which included, MASINCEDANE ‘the hand that helps others’ which was bought by Morgan Freeman at the auction.
Nelson Mandela’s hand was engraved on a solid silver sheet, the lines on his hand paveed with white Diamonds and the entire piece was mounted on a piece of rock from Robben Island. The plaque also featured his signature and a quote.

“Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton launched the exhibition “Making Peace” in Johannesburg. Later that day the two former Presidents jointly hosted a fund-raising dinner at the Saxon Hotel.
Sabine Roemer designed a jewellery piece for the occasion”.
The Nguni Head was made out of 18karat whitegold and was set with black and white diamonds and had a total 3,1carats. The piece of art had the following engraving:
